Where to draw a child’s tooth in the UAE?

Is it possible to remove teeth as painlessly as possible? Which clinic to choose in the UAE, essentially a foreign country for us? Any parent will take care of these issues sooner or later. After all, no one likes to endure pain, especially when your lovely child is crying. We understand that many children are moody, choosy, and may be afraid of doctors. Nevertheless, we know that there are intricacies of working with young patients.

Our clinic has a wide range of services: from installing veneers to dental tourism . It also specializes in tooth extraction for children and adults . Family dentist Yevhenia Zykova is a skilled specialist with many years of experience. She will always advise and find an approach to everyone.

General recommendations and indications for tooth extraction in children

Is the situation familiar? The baby has got a healthy tooth which staggers and does not want to fall out. And then parents resort to folk medicine. For instance, they give a child a carrot or a hard green apple. Or they tie a thread and pull it out. Such methods may work if the baby tooth is completely healthy. But if you still have problems, then your way out is to see a specialist.

Should a tooth be saved or is surgery the only option? This decision should be made only by a specialist, dentist. We can offer you both dental treatment for small patients and removal. We will talk about the last option later.

There are cases in which an operation, that is extraction of a tooth, is a necessary measure for a child:

  • When the tooth decay destroyed the tooth to such an extent that the treatment will not help;
  • The growth of a permanent tooth has already begun, and the roots of the milk tooth do not disappear quickly;
  • If the root has resolved (as dental X-ray image shows), but the tooth does not fall out;
  • Cyst on the root;
  • Fistula on the gums;
  • Serious damage, trauma of the milk tooth;
  • Teething of the molar over the milk one;
  • Acute inflammatory process;
  • Diseases such as sinusitis, abscess, periodontitis.

It is necessary to consult the doctor in all of the above mentioned cases as soon as possible, since each of the described dental problems has its own serious consequences, which can affect both the formation of the bite and the general health of the child.

How to prepare a child for tooth extraction?

Pain during tooth extraction is the most important fear for both children and their parents.

We will try to give you some important tips. To fulfill them or not is your right.

Try not to stress the child or minimize it. For example, tell him the story that one tooth became very naughty, it bothered others, so it needs to be saved and “pulled out”.

Another option is to take your child with you when you will be examined by a dentist. Let your child be convinced that it is not painful and not scary. Of course, if you easily stand this procedure.

Also, if finances allow you or you like to give gifts to your baby, then promise some kind of toy or a trip to the water park (cinema, game room, quest room), subject to his good behavior. The most important thing is that you yourself should be calm and not to panic. Then your mood will be transferred to the child.

In order not to resort to this unpleasant procedure, “peanuts” should be taken with you for a visit regularly, preferably 3-4 times a year. Firstly, it will preserve the health of the child’s teeth. Secondly, it will teach him to go to the dentist and negate his fear. A calm attitude towards dentists is a guarantee that there will be no problems with teeth in adulthood.

Anesthesia: to be or not to be?

In pediatric dentistry, the child is immersed in anesthesia by the introduction of intravenous drugs or with an oxygen mask. As a rule, extraction of milk teeth, as well as permanent ones under anesthesia, is necessary in the following situations:

  • Multiple extractions;
  • Allergy to local anesthetics;
  • Mental and neurological diseases (epilepsy, cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome);
  • Small age of the patient (from the age of one);
  • Panic fear of the child before the procedure.

If the child has acute infectious diseases, insufficient weight or rickets, an acute infection or has recently been vaccinated, as well as uncompensated heart failure, then anesthesia is contraindicated.

Baby Teeth Removal

Milk teeth are temporary teeth, which, however, require no less attention than permanent ones. Over time, they fall out themselves when their root resolves. And dentists do not recommend to rush things. This can lead to a violation of the formation of the correct bite and eruption of molars.

Surely, many of us remember from childhood this frightening and barbaric procedure. Today, in modern pediatric dentistry, you can remove a tooth in a comfortable environment. For example, when watching a favorite cartoon.

Most often, when it comes to the extraction of milk teeth, we use superficial local anesthesia – a safe and effective method of pain relief. This is the application of a special anesthetic gel to the gums. But this is with fairly movable teeth.

Permanent tooth extraction

Removing a permanent tooth in children usually coincides with symptoms in adults. We highlight the following situations:

  • Tooth decay. If the dentist sees that a damaged tooth cannot be cured, it is most likely he will suggest removing it.
  • Split. Part of the tooth can injure the mucous membrane. Sometimes restoration is real, otherwise extraction is needed.
  • Excessive crowding. When braces or mouth guards are installed, it is occasionally necessary to remove one tooth in order to give others a “space” for development.
  • Complications after treatment. If the previous dentist did his job poorly, then there will be a problem of solution only by getting rid of the tooth (for example, purulent complications).

In these cases, we use local infiltration anesthesia in most cases. Then the analgetic is injected into the gum from both sides. But do not worry: we use special, very thin needles. And often a small patient does not even feel an injection, since application anesthesia is preliminarily performed.

General anesthesia during tooth extraction in children is used extremely rarely and only in special cases which are serious mental illness, acute purulent inflammatory processes, an allergy to drugs for local anesthesia.

Removing a wisdom tooth in children

Wisdom teeth (third molars) are the most extreme in dentition, they grow last at the age of 14–25 years and sometimes not completely. What are the indications and reasons for their removal?

  • Incorrect position, since they cause injuries to adjacent teeth, cheeks and tongue;
  • The tooth is in an uncomfortable position and far, its roots are strongly curved, that makes it impossible to treat periodontitis, pulpitis and other complications of tooth decay;
  • The diagnosis of pericoronitis, the inflammation of the soft tissues of the gums is detected;
  • Lack of space for a wisdom tooth due to increased crowding.

A specialist can recommend removing wisdom teeth to a child only after an examination and consultation with other relevant doctors. The dentist also finds out from the parents whether their son or daughter has any illness or allergy in order to choose the optimal treatment tactics that will avoid complications. Then he takes an X-ray image of the tooth and determines the position of the roots.

We also remind you that our clinic is engaged in the extraction of wisdom teeth for adults.

Tooth Extraction Aftercare

Usually, there are no complications after the extraction of milk teeth – of course, if the manipulation is carried out correctly and the doctor is an experienced one. Let’s try to answer the frequently asked questions.

  • What should not be eaten?

Children’s dentists advise to limit the child with eating sweets, soda, too hot dishes in the first days after surgery. You should also avoid sunbathing, outdoor games, a hot bath – in other words, everything that can cause an increase of body temperature.

  • How to brush teeth?

When brushing your teeth, use a soft-bristled brush and avoid injuring your gums at the site of the extraction.

  • What about rinsing?

Sometimes parents notice inflammation of the hole or its bleeding – this is a sign for a second visit to the doctor. A blood clot in a hole is a completely normal phenomenon. Moreover, it is necessary – this clot is a natural barrier to bacteria, it protects the wound from infection. In no case should you try to extract it! That is why doctors do not recommend rinsing the mouth with antiseptic and soothing liquids in the first 2-3 days after tooth extraction. Rinsing can displace or completely wash away this clot.

After three days, if necessary, you can rinse your mouth with antiseptic and herbal decoction that relieve inflammation, for example, a solution of Furacilin, a decoction of camomile, calendula or sage. The fluid should not be too hot or too cold. It is generally dangerous to heat the area of the extracted tooth, so hot rinses and especially compresses are excluded – they can cause serious harm.

  • What medicine and drugs to take?

If the dentist prescribed an antibiotic after the tooth was removed, follow the recommendations and do not give children other medications not to provoke complications.

  • What are the complications? How to treat?

Modest edema, bruising, swollen cheeks, dry mouth corners and discomfort are not pathologies. Slight pain after tooth extraction in children, especially in the first few hours, is a normal reaction to the intervention. You can try to put an ice pack to reduce discomfort. After the effect of anesthesia weakens (after 1.5–2 hours), you can begin to give painkillers prescribed by your doctor, one dose every 6 hours.

  1. severe and prolonged pain
  2. temperature rise above 38 degrees
  3. inflammation
  4. flux that prevents swallowing or breathing
  5. profuse and prolonged bleeding
  6. numbness that lasts longer than a day
  7. abdominal cramps, vomiting and diarrhea

All these are signs that something has gone wrong. In such cases, a visit to the dentist is required.
